Using online resources, choose a relevant image, series of images, article or post as the basis to respond to one of the five topics addressed in selected essays from "Photography Changes Everything."
How photography changes ...
- how cultural groups are represented and perceived
- how political messages are packaged
- how we record and respond to social issues
- how cultural history is told
- who we become
Write a 2-page paper (typed) discussing one of these topics using your visual content to support your ideas. You will present your paper and images to class with 25min per student for presentation and discussion on Tuesday, March 10 and Thursday, March 12 before Spring Break.

Review selections and sizing images and black and white conversion methods
Demonstrate compositing images, transform commands, type tool, color picker, and basic mask
Assignment #2: Make at least 4 digital postcards of fictional places meaning you creatively alter one image or composite several images to make a new place - a landscape, urban space, interior, etc. - or it could even be abstract. You should have at least 5 layers in each new file (content or adjustment layers) including one or more with a Type layer. Please leave your layers open and save these files as TIFFS or PSDs. You should resize these files to a postcard size such as 4x6in or 5x7in. If you would like to print these on your own, make sure your resolution is higher than 150ppi. We will only view these as digital files during our critique so 72ppi is fine for this assignment if you don't intend to print these postcards. The digital postcards are due for critique on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
